Intuitive Self Protection is a Nationwide training organization that caters to both personal and corporate environments. We are extremely passionate and devoted to providing self-protection skill sets that have proven real-world results that are highly effective and can be used immediately. Our programs are designed for the everyday person to execute and are taught in a way that makes you want to learn. That means you, or your team, will never have instructors barking command driven tasks at you or make you do burpees until you’re sick. While many of our instructors come from the Military, Law Enforcement, Security, and Executive Protection field, EVERY instructor is taught to teach in a friendly non-aggressive manner. The skills taught by ISP include but are not limited to; preventive actions/strategies, immediate avoidance actions, extreme close quarters self-defensive skills, after action or after encounter skill sets (what you do after something happens), and most importantly the mindset you need to win, not just the fight, but in life. These skills are derived from real world, down range experience that keep our Nation’s best and most elite units alive in the most extreme conditions and are tailored, not watered down, to the everyday person.
Intuitive Self Protection is a subdivision of NLB Tactical. NLB tactical is our Military and Law Enforcement (Government) training branch and has trained well over 22,000 Operators who put themselves in harm’s way to protect our streets and our Country every day.
Bottom line, we teach people how to survive real world threats so they can come home to their families. We have built a reputation as one of the top self-protection, combative, and tactical firearms training companies in the country and we are headquartered right here in Virginia Beach, VA.
Our History and Heritage
Since 1998 our parent company, NLB Tactical, has built its reputation on training Military and Law Enforcement Units (mainly at the Special Teams level) how to survive and take down real world threats in extreme close quarter environments. To date, NLB Tactical has trained well over 22,000 Law Enforcement and Military operators ranging from SWAT Teams from our Nation’s most dangerous jurisdictions to our Nation’s most elite Tier One Units to include Army, Navy, Marines and Joint Special Operations Commands and Allied Nations, all under Government Contract. Because we still work with, and respect the privacy of, these teams/units/commands we cannot (will not) list them by specific names here. However, they are teams that you’ve more than likely heard of and some teams that you will never know about.
NLB Tactical was founded by United States Martial Arts Hall of Famer (2012) and body-guard to the elite Hank Hayes and originally centered around his patented invention of the "No Lie Blade" which is a training marking blade designed to give immediate feedback for your knife defense technique and see if it worked, or didn't. The No Lie Blade was so revolutionary it completely created a new category for training and training products. With the success of the blade, Hank quickly recognized that the men and women that keep this Country safe and who were using the tool didn't have the necessary fighting skill and training with extreme violence of action to fend off a knife attack. They needed the type of training that would give them results NOW!! They needed a system that is highly effective, easy to do, easy to learn, and most importantly easy to remember in high stress environments. Something that works for most people, on most people, in most situations. Thus the NLB Knife Defense and Combatives System was born and is now a world leader in edged weapon defense, empty hand extreme close quarter combatives, and tactical firearms training.
What makes NLB Tactical, and by default Intuitive Self Protection, so unique is our ability to not only develop the physical skills sets needed to win but also, more importantly, the mindset that is required to prevail in seemingly impossible situations. We don’t focus on giving students a bunch of techniques to memorize that they may or may not recall in a high stress environment. Instead, we give a few highly effective techniques but drill the concepts and principles which allows students to make more fluid connections and thus be able to effectively take action and perform when pressure tested. These unique instructional techniques have proven so effective that our Nation’s Finest Law Enforcement Agencies and Most Elite Warfighters continue to train with us year after year and why we maintain a 97% Past Performance Rating.
In 2019, after years of civilians asking for this training, Hank started Intuitive Self Protection. Intuitive Self Protection is a 100% team environment comprised of hand selected expert instructors. Most, if not all, of the ISP Team come from a Security, Law Enforcement, or Military background and are able to pass their collective decades of knowledge and experience on to you. In addition to our core team of instructors we also train new up and coming instructors and help them to develop their instructor skills to their maximum potential.
We train people from all walks of life how to effectively protect themselves and their loved ones from real life threats. This training has saved the lives of countless Military and Law Enforcement personnel and can do the same for you.
